Ansco 120 Soft-working Photographic Paper Developer

FormulasThis is a soft-working developer, primarily intended for portrait work where soft gradation is required. (Ed. Note – Some photographers have used this developer for film, too.)

 

Stock Solution

Hot water (125F or 52 C) 750 ml
Metol 12.3 g
Sodium Sulfite, anhydrous 36 g
Sodium Carbonate, monohydrated 36 g
Potassium Bromide 1.8 g
Water to make 1 L

 

For use, dilute 1 part stock solution with 2 parts water.

Normal developing time, 1 1/2 to 3 minutes at 68F (20C).

 

From Ansco Formulas for Black and White Film by GAF, 1948 – Formulas are provided for historical reference. They may not work well with modern films and papers. Some of the chemicals can be dangerous. As with all photographic processes, be careful.
